THE annual Brocklesby Point-to-Point horse races will take place on Saturday, March 9.

The event will be held at Lord Yarborough's Brocklesby estate.

  1. Brocklesby Point to Point

The course is widely acknowledged as one of the best-prepared point-to-point tracks in the country and race-goers, horses and riders are expected to travel from far and wide to enjoy the racing.

There will be bookmakers, food outlets, a licenced bar and trade stands – plus the superb parkland setting is ideal for a picnic.

Mike and Jill Dawson's horse, Blarney Highwayman, could be one to watch. It finished third at the South Wold meeting earlier this month.

Blarney Highwayman is trained at Grainthorpe by Jill Dawson and is expected to line up in the Men's Open at Brocklesby.

A local rider to watch out for is Tom Strawson, whose horses are trained at Ulceby.

Strawson rode his first winner at the Brocklesby Point-to-Point last year, when Regal Reign won the Member's race.

This time around he may ride Reach For The Top in the Men's Open race. It is a new horse to the Strawson stable, but gave Tom a winner at the first time of asking when taking the Novice Rider's race at South Wold.

Admission is £10 per person with under-16's free. First race is at 12.30pm.
