Park Ward - Candidates
THE local elections are now just over a week away, so to help you make sure you make the right decision, the Grimsby Telegraph has caught up with all the candidates from each ward. As well as finding out what they plan to do, our local government reporter PETER CRAIG has also been quizzing them on their interests. Today, we take a closer look at the candidates standing in the Park Ward. Profiles for all candidates in all local wards will be featured each day in the run-up to the election on May 6.

How I will improve my ward: Walking round the Park Ward I was dismayed to see the dog fouling on the streets. This can not be blamed on the council it is down to the residents to become more responsible for their own environment. There is an absence of dog foul bins and these should be placed on the Park Ward. Residents that allow this fouling to happen are putting all other residents at risk of slipping and causing injury.

How I will improve my ward: Should I be elected, these are some of the proposals that I would like to implement to make a difference to Park Ward. Essentially, working together to widen the responsibility, to encourage the ownership to the residents of Park Ward, I will look to modernise and improve derelict houses, improve street scenes and safety, more bins for dog waste and more litter bins, encourage more interaction with our elderly and younger people and establish, 'Grow it and eat it' Clubs. I shall encourage more people to become involved in our community and local council.

How I will improve my ward: I will listen, involve people, and encourage partnership. I'll follow up detail too. That way we can solve problems and improve our community. No one can do that alone. At the new community forum we have identified priority issues such as landlord responsibility, transport, parking and engaging people of all ages, a big agenda for the councillor team in Park that I want to join. I will use skills gained in community projects, finance and resources and as an educational consultant working across the UK. The important question: 'What is good so far and how could it be even better?'

How I will improve my ward: I will work with everyone necessary to improve the quality of peoples' lives within the ward, be it the police to tackle anti-social behaviour or various departments within the council to ensure, where ever possible, issues are both listened to and dealt with. Having lived in the ward, most of the time, since 1974, and having met many residents, particularly in the past 12 months, it is clear to me what the issues are and what is equally clear is that many of the electorate have had serious concerns and they have not been adequately dealt with by their sitting councillors.
