Scartho Ward - Candidates
THE local elections are now under a week away, so to help you make sure you make the right decision, the Grimsby Telegraph has caught up with all the candidates from each ward. As well as finding out what they plan to do, our local government reporter PETER CRAIG has also been quizzing them on their interests. Today, we take a closer look at the candidates standing in the Scartho Ward. Profiles for all candidates in all local wards will be featured each day in the run-up to the election on May 6.

How I will improve my ward: Scartho is a fantastic place to live and has many positive aspects, however, I would endeavour to improve the ward by improving footpaths, addressing irresponsible parking. Investing in and repairing the roads in the ward and working with local businesses to ensure that Scartho remains a vibrant community and supporting local community groups to ensure their long term viability and providing opportunities for local residents to raise issues and being honest if I do not have the answers or can not resolve a situation.

How I will improve my ward: Having lived in Scartho for 26 years and ward councillor for the last four, if re-elected I would continue to work with residents in resolving the local issues that concern them most in a positive and constructive way. I would work towards providing youth facilities in the village to give our young people something to do and somewhere to go. I would like to see stricter enforcement of the parking regulations and encourage the police to provide more frequent foot patrols in the area, and I would continue to support eligible local groups and organisations through the ward funding scheme.

How I will improve my ward: We need to do something about the state of the footpaths. The elderly are at risk. There has been some repair, but it is not enough and it has cracked up in the frosty weather. I am also concerned about the two play areas in Scartho because of the amount of broken glass there is on the grass. It is not safe for the children who go there and, despite councillors having been warned about it, nothing has been done about it. I shall. I am retired now from the NHS and will commit my time to the residents of Scartho.
