Grimsby Telegraph

I have been travelling this route 17 times a year for the past 12 years and have delivered the tree for the past three years.

This is a fun job and I enjoy taking a small break from ordinary work and delivering the tree. It makes me feel like it's Christmas and I am even considering spending it here in Grimsby.

This ship is 81.52 metres long and 16 metres wide. The gross tonnage is 3,538 tonnes and it can carry a cargo of around 2,000 tonnes. As well as unloading the tree, we also unloaded about 1,000 tonnes of frozen fish from the freezers below deck, which are stored at temperatures as low as -30°C.

The route takes us as far north as Murmansk, in Russia, goes to a few ports in Norway, Velsem in Holland, to Aberdeen and then down to Grimsby. The cycle takes three weeks altogether, but about one week to go from Norway to Grimsby.
