Organiser Joan Date (nee Gladwin), was part of the Youth Orchestra at the school and she cannot wait to meet all former students who may not have met in 45 years.

Joan, 62, of Waltham, said: "I thoroughly enjoyed my time there and all the fellow girls were lovely.

"The reason why I initiated the reunion is because I met up with a friend from the school who I hadn't seen in over 40 years.

"She will be travelling from London for the evening.

"It will be great to get everyone who haven't seen each other in many years together; I'm sure everyone will have lots of stories to tell.

"People are welcome to bring memorabilia, but more importantly bring themselves.

"The school was very different to how schools are now.

"We did music competitions and in the lower sixth form we created a Christmas pantomime to perform to the rest of the school.

"The school had a very different atmosphere because it was all girls."

Joan described the headmistress, Miss Vallins, as a "real character".

"Our headmistress had a fantastic sense of humour, but all the students were petrified of her," added Joan.

"There are so many teachers I could talk about such as Mr Wake, the English teacher.

"Music was my favourite subject by far and it always has been."

There will be a buffet on the evening.
