FROM lions in Grimsby Zoo to frolicking along Cleethorpes prom – the final part of a three-part Bygones series promises readers a nostalgic trip down memory lane.

The final instalment of the Lost Trilogy – a Bygones special that features a collection of stunning photographs of Grimsby, Cleethorpes and Lincolnshire – is available to buy now.

It features never-before-seen photographs from across the ages.

From the fish drying fields in Grimsby to the crammed beaches of Cleethorpes in the 1930s, the riveted crowds packed in to watch Jonny Slater and the Super Follies, to the more recent the construction of the East Marsh flats off Freeman Street, the Lost Trilogy offers a rare chance to peek back at our county's history.

The unseen photographs come from our extensive archive collection, together with unique pictures shared with readers thanks to Sue Whyte, of Manby.

As reported, Sue inherited the collection of 175 glass slides from her father Frank Thompson, of Grimsby, who was a keen photographer.

She was keen to share the images with Bygones, but is sadly unable to see the collection in print.

Sue, who was fascinated by old photographs, died in December, aged 59, from a brain haemorrhage.

The first and second parts of this sensational series are both available by back issue and have proved to be popular publications with both Bygones fans and those with a passion for history.

Don't miss out on the final part of the collectible series, which perfectly preserves and praises our county's past.

“The Zoo, I remember was where Pleasure Island is, the lake there is a part where flamingos and pelicans lived.

There could have been more zoo's in the past but I remember that one.

A wonderful place, when it first opened, maybe not the best one I've visited, but still a good one, early on.

Lions, Tigers, all the cats, Elephants, Hippos, Snakes, Apes, Bison, Buffoloe's, Dolphins, Seal's, Tropical Birds, a Tropical House, Monkeys, you name it, you could have found it as far as I remeber.

The Zoo, did go down hill when it was sold, but that's how some places go if they aren't invested in.

Vet Bills, feeds, and most of all improvements to the facilities, all neglected so it went, gone forever. (like the SS Lincoln Castle could go.

A Memorable visit every time I went.

Pity people don't realise something until it has gone, maybe many years later.”
