Lincolnshire Fire and Rescue is urging people to test their smoke alarms when they change their clocks.
On Easter weekend (Saturday 30/ Sunday 31) the clocks will need to be put forward one hour in every home across the county.
The Fire Kills campaign is urging people to test their smoke alarms as part of this routine. It’s in a bid to reduce the number of people who are killed in accidental house fires in England each year – more than 200.
In Lincolnshire in the past three years, there were almost 1,000 accidental dwelling fires, causing 35 casualties* and six deaths.

Debbie Robinson, Deputy Community Fire Safety Manager at Lincolnshire Fire and Rescue, said:
“You’re four times more likely to die in a fire if you haven’t got a working smoke alarm. A fully-functioning alarm can buy you and your family the valuable time you need to get out and dial 999 in an emergency.
“Astoundingly, only half of all householders who own a smoke alarm say they test it regularly. It’s vitally important to check that it still works as one in three fails to operate in a fire, usually because the battery is dead or was intentionally removed.
“Put simply, by pushing the ‘test’ button on your smoke alarm, you could save the lives of your nearest and dearest – children, parents and friends alike.”
