With her skills and experience, Sharon was able to teach travel and tourism lessons at the Grimsby Institute.
However, her latest career venture is one she believes will provide a unique service to holiday makers across the borough.
The married mum-of-three said: "I thought the time was right for me to move on to something different and give myself a new challenge.
"Cruise Holidays UK is part of the Freedom Travel Group under Co-op Travel and I am the only one to have set up a branch of the company in North East Lincolnshire.
"When looking for a holiday, especially a cruise, people need that personal service.
"From my own experience of working in travel agents, I find they can be all about making a sale instead of getting to know the individual and finding the right holiday to suit them.
"This is what I am hoping to provide, a service which tailors the right cruise to the right person."
Sharon's new businesses will operate on an appointment basis.
When a customer contacts her regarding a cruise, she will arrange to meet at a time and place suitable to them.
Working from home also gives Sharon the advantage of not having to stick to a rigid nine to five weekday shift.
She said: "I can work at any time of the day and weekends which makes me different from the high street companies and again reiterates my personal service.
"I believe the experience and knowledge I have of cruises is essential to helping others plan their holiday.
"Choosing a cruise is not easy – there are so many types now available with various destinations but with my help I can guarantee people will have the time of their life."
September marks National Cruise Week and Sharon has organised afternoon tea at Mitu's Restaurant Bar, The Square, Laceby.
It takes place on Saturday, September 15, from 2pm to 5pm. Alternatively, call Sharon on 0800 021 4717, e-mail sallen@cruiseholidaysuk.co.uk or visit www.sharonallen.cruiseholidaysuk.co.uk
