CHRISTMAS is the time for giving, and some say there is no greater gift than that of time.

In today's busy, modern world, how often do we just stop?

"I can't!" I hear you cry. "I've to pick up the kids, cook the tea, check on the mother-in-law and go to work for eight hours a day."

That leaves very little time for anything else, so it is with total respect – and a little bit of envy – that today we read of 22-year-old volunteer Daniel Wright.

The joy of a childhood visit to the Lincolnshire Wolds Railway stayed with him growing up, and now he volunteers once a week at the attraction. Indeed, the station itself would not survive were it not for the dedicated team who give up their time to care for and operate it, bringing enjoyment to hundreds of families every year.

Today, Daniel is urging us to get involved – but if trains are not your thing, how about finding somewhere else to volunteer? A quick internet search, and you could give a valuable gift this Christmas.
