THE review has also seen councillors turn their attention back to the controversial Laceby bypass.

Coun Vickers said that after consulting Laceby Parish Council, landowners and residents, NELC had been left with two viable options for the notorious stretch of the A46:

A 70 mph limit with a 50mph restriction approaching the Laceby village turn-off.

A 60 mph limit along the whole stretch of the bypass from Morrisons to the A18 Laceby roundabout.

As reported, an initial road safety report, published by the council last month, had recommended the limit was dropped to 50mph, however, this has now been deemed as "unjustified".

Coun Vickers further recommended reducing the speed from Morrisons to Bradley crossroads from 50mph to 40mph, and said the plans would now be put out for further consultation.

It is likely the preferred option will then be trialed for six months.

In a separate move, motorists will be prevented from turning right into Laceby village from the south-bound carriageway, at the BMW garage.

There will also be further talks with farmers and parish councillors regarding gaps between the carriageways for agricultural vehicles.

Former chairman of Laceby Parish Council, Coun Walter Johnson, said: "People will still speed along there.

"With all this money that has been spent on studying it, they could have built two roundabouts – which is what we wanted."

“I was making a list of accident for John, at homes comment. But I agree with you, there are so many things wrong with that roads safety. the camera that isn't burnt out has a bush overgrown in front of it, so if they were working it wouldnt catch much”

“From your comments peggy, speed was not too much of a factor there, being hit coming out of a junction and driving the wrong way down the road are both down to not paying attention.
It is a duel carriage way, so why let traffic cro ss over 2 lanes of 70mph traffic when there is a roundabout either end that can be used to turn around if needed. also why dont they have armco barrier down the centre and sides? so if a collision happens they will not cross over on to the other carriage way nor will they be able to reach the foot path running parrallel to the road. They spend all the money on 'safety cameras' that are not even active, and not on the proper safety measures there to actually help prevent other accidents occuring.”

“08th January 2001 I got hit at 60mph by a driver at one of the junctions.

How about the accident at Morrisons where the man was decapitated, and the council sent his widow a bill for the lamp post he knocked over?

How about the accident of the pensioner driving the wrong way on the bypass

What about the accident causing the death of two bright and wonderful girls?

Etc. Etc. Etc. The road is one complete death trap, I would close 2 lanes and make it a single lane road both ways”

“Does anyone have any numbers (and dates) of accidents at the two junctions ?”
