Singer returns from the desert
Tuesday, November 18, 2008, 09:00
David Stout, who plays the part of Elijah in Louth Choral Society's presentation of the dramatic choral piece Elijah, has been in the desert of Botswana getting a flavour of isolation and loneliness.
And that was not the only flavour on offer.
While he was there, he ate the natural food available – mopane worms – a kind of big caterpillar, but he claims they are not particularly sustaining for 40 days in the wilderness.
David has now returned home for rehearsals – and some home cooked food – and will be joining three other soloists, Claire Seaton, Kate Symonds-Joy and Jeff Stewart; the Louth Choral Society and the Eastern Sinfonia in their presentation of the show.
Elijah tells the story of the conflict between Elijah the prophet and King Ahab, Queen Jezebel and the priests of Baal. Drought, famine, sacrifice, slaughter, thunderbolts, and chariots of fire punctuate a sequence of wonderful tunes and choruses.
For this performance the chorus and the Eastern Sinfonia will be directed by Martin Pickering.
The performance will take place on November 23, at St James' Church, Louth, from 7.30pm. Tickets priced £13 and £9 are available from Eve And Ranshaw, Market Place, Louth, or by calling (01507) 463410.
