I came to Adelaide, South Australia, in 1971 with my two children Angela and Paul. I have two Australian grandchildren, Chloe aged 18 and Hayden aged 16.
I am now retired after working for the South Australian Government for 18 years and then being an aged carer for 15 years. We have lived in Cooranbong New South Wales, Wanniassa, Canberra, Australian Capital Territory, Dubbo, New South Wales, with my husband Graham.
We have now retired in Loxton, South Australia. I have visited Grimsby on many occations, as I miss my family very much, it has been four years since I was last there.
My brother John and his wife Janet have been over twice to see me and two sisters Carol and Susan with three of their children Jayne, Helen and Neil.
I am looking forward to seeing my sister Carol come for another holiday. Living in Trenton, Canada, since 1977 and retired. After leaving Grimsby in 1968 I worked for Fropax Eskimo Frood in Aberdeen where I met my future wife.
We came to Canada in 1970 to work until I received an opportunity to go to South Africa. We arrived in George, South Africa, in 1972 where I worked at Table Top Foods as QC in the vegetable plant.
In 1975 I was transferred to Capetown and sailed on fishing vessels, including the trawlers Northela and Junella until 1977 when we returned to Canada.
Since then I have worked for Heinz Pillsbury and General Mills. I'm now retired and enjoy golf and fishing in a great area in Canada as we are on the north shore of Lake Ontario.
I managed to travel all over Canada as well as South America and the USA. I spent a week in Grimsby last April so see my mum who still lives in Hainton Avenue with my sister Jean.
I manage to keep in touch with what's going on via thisisgrimsby and Bygones. No doubt I will be back in the near future.

I now live in Ballajura, with Peter. My 3 children, and 4 grandchildren, all live in Landsdale, which is only about 5km away from me.
My husband Peter has a farm up North, and we share our time between there and here. We are semi-retired. I have my own dance school & teach tap dancing to the mature age, at Maylands, in Perth.
Have been back to Grimsby a few times, and most likely to visit again next year, with Peter. We married 18th Dec 2005. Peter has never been out of Australia, and has yet to meet some of family from Grimsby.
I look forward to showing him my home town.

Grimsby over 4 years
ago, to live a very
different life. Talk
about one extreme to
another! With only a
few holidays in
Ireland under our
belt with no jobs,
friends or relatives
in Ireland to go to
we packed up the 3
children, the dog,
and anything else
that could earn us
money, and set off.
Dave left the
security of his job
at Lee's, the
Furnishers, and I
gave up child
minding, for what
can only be
described as the
biggest adventure of
our lives. Within 5
weeks we'd gone from
living in the centre
of Grimsby Town to
living in the
"sticks" in the
heart of rural
Ireland. We are now
living in Aglish,
North Tipperary, on
the boarders of
County Galway, Clare
and Offaly. Close to
Lough Derg and the
River Shannon. Up
until recently we
ran the village
shop. We also have a
"very unique" self
catering holiday
home that we rent
out, Conroy's Old
Bar. It's a typical
Irish village pub
that no longer holds
a liquor licence and
so we have carefully
adapted it into a 2
bedroomed holiday
home, being sure to
retain all of it's
charm and character.
Complete with fully
working bar,
openfire, kitchen,
double bedroom en
suite, super
kingsize bed and
double shower. What
can be better than
spending your "whole
holiday" in the pub?
We can even provide
a fully stocked bar
on request! We love
our life here and
wouldn't change it
for the world.
Although we do miss
our family and
friends (and
Lincolnshire
sausages!). Business
does mean we very
rarely get to back
Grimsby, but with
air fares being so
cheap and only an
hours flight away,
we often have
"Grimsby" come to
us! |

We emigrated to New
Zealand three years
ago now. We now live
in Tauranga - North
Island, New Zealand.
The last 3 years
have flown by. My
daughter Natalie got
married and blessed
us with a treasure
of a grandson, young
Dominic John
Brierley. The
lifestyle here is
very relaxed and
laid back. It's
great to be able to
wear shorts and
*jangles
(*flip-flops to
Grimbarians) all
year round. We have
a full section on
our property, we
have planted lots of
citrus trees and
exotic plants. I do
miss all of my
family very much,
although we keep in
touch via telephone
conversations and
e-mail. I will be
seeing them this
summer. High on the
could-kill-for list
are Donner kebab,
Carling Black Label,
fish & chips, local
pub (Within a 4 mile
radius) and snow at
Christmas. Our first
Christmas seemed so
strange. I cooked a
traditional dinner
(December is the
start of summer
here). The following
year we had a
seafood platter -
cold hams & salad.
We love the
lifestyle and
climate here, but
Grimsby will always
have a place in my
heart.

Two years ago with
three other ex-RAF
collegues we wrote
and had a book
published on the
history of RAF
Little Rissington. I
also have written an
unpublished book on
my childhood and
teenage days in dear
old GY, so many fond
memories. My wife
and I enjoy walking
but make a point of
coming up to Great
Grimsby and Lindsey
as I knew it (as
they will always be
known to me) at
least once a year.
We live in Bourton
on the Water, Glos.

was devastated at
first as I left
Cliff and the
Beatles behind.
Perth was so far
behind with music
and fashion in those
days. Couldn't even
get my "Beatle"
stockings so my
Nanna used to post
them out to me,
which took more than
3 weeks, my how
times have changed.
But I soon settled
into the Ozzie way
of life and met and
married Uwe who came
from from Hamburg
Germany at the age
of 10. We moved to
Perth, and are still
in the same home
after 40 great years
together. I wouldnt
swap my life for
anything and enjoy
my 2 lovely
daughters, and
loving every minute
of being a Nanna.
But saying that a
huge part of my
heart is still in
Grimsby. We have
been fortunate
enough to travel
back 3 times since
1994, and have a lot
of contact via email
etc with my family.
We look forward to
coming back to visit
with them all again
soon, and exploring
more parts of Gy and
surrounding
districts, that I
never saw when I was
a kid.
